Minimum criteria for property in France

The following criteria have been defined as being mimum needed for a property to be rented out to clients:

1. minimum 9m2 habitable space, the minimum surface for what we are allowed to call a bedroom!

2 the head room needs to be minimum 2,20 m

3. the must be guard rails and staircases respecting the security of users, for example to balconies without a guard rail, or a guard rail lower than 1,10m

4, there must be safety equipment such as smoke detectors, and material that does not represent a risk inside the house, for example easy inflamable material.

Strange enough Asbestos is still tolerated, but we need to inform the ocupants of its presence

5 minimum services need to be provided, such as drinking water, drainage, outside light, and safe electricity system.

Again electricity reports are obliged to reveal the staus of the system.

Since 2016 all property need to have a drainage connection that conforms, but few do... as it is too much work to oblige the rural property to confirm all in one go, that is why at time of purchase we indicate what the status is.
