Domaine la Grye, was a self supporting estate with origins in the 19th century, where everything was done locally. This barn was used for several purposes, but mainly to dry the harvest from the estate. The garden workers of the estate enjoyed their lunch here. It is this historical building that has been transformed into a magnificent holiday house respecting the materials and it's history.

The building consists of two floors, the lower floor, with two studios, with opening on to the castle courtyard, and the upper floor with the living room and the upper studio, with direct access to the higher garden and its terrace.

Upstairs you can enjoy the magnificent wooden roof framework, as this has been left apparent. The high windows let in a lot of light, during hot days the grand venetian shutters keep the sun away, Anyhow it does not get very warm as it is well insulated. For the winter there is underfloor heating and in each room an efficient wood burner.

The living has to one side the dining area and to the other the fully furnished and equipped kitchen with cooking island. In between the two door giving way to the terrace. The surface area of this living room is 45m2

On this same floor the large studio with a sitting area, sleeping area, and its own bathroom. It has a surface of 75m2, plus a loft area with extra space of 25m2. It has been divided from the living area with glass panels, so that you can enjoy the roof structure in all its glory. This height also gives it great acoustics, a great place to listen to your favourite music. From this studio you look down on the courtyard and the fields beyond.

Downstairs the two studios, each one with its access to the courtyard. Also downstairs a utility hallway with laundry area and the old bread ovens.

The studio on the right has its own bathroom, sitting area and sleeping alcove. The stone wall against the embankment has been fully insulated, and gives this room a natural aspect, but makes it also very cool. The surface of this studio is 54m2.

The studio on the left has a 56m2 footprint and has had internal walls insulated with natural clay. The large glass doors, as with the one next door, give access to the sunny courtyard. Both bathrooms have underfloor heating and each studio has its own wood burner.

Outside the garden of about an acre and half, with vegetable garden, wooded area, a water basin higher up, with next to it shadow awning to enjoy the view and the frogs in the basin. Main item is the glass house, completely renovated and a great place to enjoy group meals, when the weather does not allow it yet outside. In one corner of the garden, is the stone work shed, fully equipped with power.

This house shares the courtyard with the castle, but on the upper level, as the garden is raised, you have complete privacy. The owners of the castle are dutch, and also use it as a holiday home. It is well kept, and everybody respects each other.

It is just a 10 minute walk to the Ambierle backer up a footpath, or five minutes drive. In Ambierle also a small shop and simple restaurant around the market square. Roanne is at 20km, and there you find all shops and renowned restaurants.
