Nièvre information

The Nièvre department is the most rural region of Burgundy with forests, farmland and lots of cows and horses. Bordered by the majectic Loire river in the west and the Morvan hills in the East this is a region for nature and water lovers! Like all Burgundy regions, gastronomy and especially lovely white wines are of the utmost importance here.

The Nièvre is a region that really has it all and it is not difficult to get too. Only a few hours from Paris. A natural heaven in the heart of Europe.

The Loire in Burgundy

The Loire river, the last truly wild river of Europe, actually flows through Burgundy, between Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire and Decize. The Loire attracts amateurs of water sports, culture and of course good wine. Great to discover on bicycle, on foot or by boat or canoe. …

Pouilly sur Loire and wine

When arriving in the Nievre by the old route nationale 7 you will pass Pouilly-sur-Loire and Sancerre. Vineyards and the river Loire, classic France. Stop and taste the Sancerre white wine with a local dish while enjoying the first warm rays of sun.

Nevers

Nevers is the old pottery centre of France. The most elegant and famous French pottery was made here. The river Loire runs through the city and helps you discover the beautiful old buildings and rich history.

The Nièvre is famous for more than the Loire and wine! For instance the mythical Magny-Cours race track will make car enthusiasts hearts beat faster. Cycling along the Voie Verte and the Canal Lateral a la Loire you will discover the region as a slower pace.

Morvan wilderness

Breath, relax and wind down, you are in the Morvan! This old mountain range in the heart of Burgundy is a well-kept secret where time has stood still. You can still imagine the old clans of Gaul battling with the Romans. This part of the Nièvre inspires all kinds of outdoor activities like canoeing, horse riding, hiking, fishing...

The Nièvre for you?

The Nièvre offers everything you would expect from Burgundy but it is closer to the North of Europe, so easy to get to. It is no surprise than many Parisian families have their holiday homes here. The Loire river especially will please nature lovers. Good value for money as well, lovely stone farmhouses for a reasonable price can be found here.
