Beaune and vineyards

Beaune

This historic town and the wine producing villages which surround Beaune need no introduction, and for the wine enthusiast, only a vineyard location will do.

Nestling inside its XV century ramparts, Beaune was the seat of the Dukes of Burgundy until the XVI century, and so it offers a wealth of history, culture and magnificent architecture, notably the world-famous Hospices, with its fabulous tiled roof. Of course, there are ample opportunities for wine-tasting and enjoying the first class cuisine on offer in its many restaurants. Saturday mornings see the bustling and picturesque weekly market, held in and around the ancient market halls, and the pretty cobbled streets invite you to stroll around the town.

Events in Beaune

The renowned wine auction in November is probably the biggest event of the year, but there are many other festivals, concerts and fairs. Beaune represents a perfect holiday base for touring Burgundy, but it is very attractive for those wishing to settle in the region. Local services are second to none, there are hypermarkets on the edge of the town, and excellent state schools and hospitals.

To the north of Beaune

The Côte de Nuits stretches towards Dijon. The names of the villages are those of some of the most prestigious red wines of the region: Aloxe Corton, Gevrey Chambertin, Clos Vougeot, Nuits St. Georges…

To the south west

The Côtes de Beaune and Hautes Côtes de Beaune bring you to renowned villages such as Pommard and Meursault, and on to La Rochepot and Nolay. Property prices drop considerably with distance from Beaune. Meursault is a busy village with a very independent character. Famous for its elegant white wine, it offers a rich cultural programme, good local services and a very attractive location. The village of La Rochepot draws visitors to its fairy-tale château just 15 mins from Beaune, and the medieval town Nolay, just a few kilometres to the west, offers very good value in this area.
