Local Flavour

If you plan on an extended visit to the Château de Sully, staying in the local area, then we have a few recommendations for you in terms of some of the staple requirements at the heart of a French meal.

Local Flavour

Check out the Boulangerie in Curgey, about 6kms from the Château de Sully heading west down the D107. The bread here is excellent and for a lazy Sunday morning, we suggest the croissants with your coffee, they are delicious! You’ll find the bakery at 5 Route de Autun on the outskirts of the village.

Now when it comes to sampling the local wine, there is so much to choose from and we have a recommendation from our featured clients, the Paillards, who like the Domaine Francois Bergeret in Nolay. You’ll find him on the outskirts of the village on the Rue Franche.

The wines are excellent and affordable. In addition to the classic Beaunes, which are cultivated from the vines grown on the south and southeast-facing slopes of the valleys, you should also try the ‘Beaune Les Prévoles’- a 100% pinot noir wine, which by the way you can keep stored for up to 10 years (Editor: worth knowing, although difficult to resist the occasional glass or two!). You’ll find that François is friendly and helpful and enjoys receiving visitors to his winery.

And of course, if you are not staying at the Paillards B&B, then pop-in to see them at La Miellerie, 6, Les Vernes, Saint Léger du Bois to sample and buy some of their amazing honey flavours including acacia, spring flowers, linden and chestnut. They are always happy to receive visitors and to share their passion. For those really interested in beekeeping, they even offer guided hive tours and a visit to the honey house – a great edutainment for all the family!

Now when it comes to eating out, no surprises that we have some further recommendations for you to consider.

Take a drive back into Nolay, there Midupi is a great family restaurant with a really good Tripadvisor rating. You’ll find them at 35 Rue de la République.

For something a little different visit Bonpassage in Thury. It’s a dutch family-run restaurant within a small hotel with a cosy dining-room, serving a “home-cooked” evening menu. In summer, you can have dinner on the garden terrace until late into the evening and the wine cellar contains a selection of regional wines. You find them by taking the D54 south out of the village at 5, rue du Moulin.

And don’t forget that our featured property in this summer edition of our newsletter is an auberge. The Auberge Grillon does an excellent evening meal. You’ll find them a couple of doors up from the Marie in Sully at 7 rue du Reuil d'Eze.
