LOCAL FLAVOUR

Part of the fun of taking a well-earned vacation or weekend break is to relax and soak up the local ambience and doing those things you would not normally have time to do. And that includes having a great meal accompanied by some fine wine!
LOCAL FLAVOUR
If you are visiting the Morvan Regional Park and the local area, a great stop-off for a meal, maybe combined with an overnight stay, is the Abbaye de la Bussière, at La Bussière-sur-Ouche. This is a luxury hotel exuding both style and grandeur with history. Set in 14 acres of wooded parkland, the abbey dates back to 1131AD. It’s within an easy drive (30 mins) from both Beaune and Dijon.
The hotel has two restaurants. The Michelin starred restaurant ‘Le 1131’, with a setting that is almost unmatched in terms of elegance and history, and the Bistro des Moines.

A stay at the Abbaye de la Bussière is a lavish treat, so perhaps reserve it for a very special occasion (Ed: I once missed the wife’s birthday – won’t do that again!)
Eating out is a big part of life in France and there’s a good selection of restaurants to choose from and to suit every budget, and they are all close to our featured location of Thury. Well worth a visit is Chez Camille in the Place Edouard Herriot in Arnay- le-Duc. This is another hotel/restaurant that gets a favourable rating from its regular patrons.

Also located in Arnay is the Café du Nord, a great place to experience a local homemade meal with a fun family atmosphere. You’ll find it at 12 Place Bonaventure des Perriers. If this sounds about right, it’s worth keeping in touch with their Facebook page as they organise regular events, around film, literature and music.
If you happen to be staying at the Manoir Bonpassage, owned by our featured ‘Living the Dream’ couple Ruud and Annemiek, then you’ll already be well catered for, however for us Brits there’s nothing like a good cup of tea and you’ll find the ideal spot in Thury in the Place de la Mairie. La Galipote is a traditional tea shop with a wide selection of pastries to accompany the ever-growing selection of classic, herbal and fruity teas.

Whether your stay in Thury is for only a few hours, or maybe longer, make sure you visit nearby Saint-Léger-du-Bois and pop into La Miellerie at 6 Rue du Tacot. There you will find a pretty impressive array of honey to buy and take home with you, bringing back some of those memories of your last wonderful trip to Burgundy.

And before we finish, we always have a recommendation for a visit to a local winery. Our choice this time is Domaine Claude Nouveau in Change, a 20 minute drive to the South-east from Thury via the D33 and D14A. he has a good selection of both whites and reds that includes Bourgogne Aligoté, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot, Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière, Santenay Les Charmes Dessus and Santenay 1er Cru Grand Clos Rousseau. Make sure you leave plenty of room in the boot of the car for a case or two of these famous labels!
